Important

In case you already have an existing registrant contact with contact properties added to it for .FR domains to use for the create, you can skip to step 2.

Once requested, the create will complete real-time.

Important

Once the create has been completed, the registry might boot up a verification procedure to verify registrant details. The details that the registry checks created domains on are listed below;

  • The postal address for the place of residence
  • The business name and/or identifier for the existence and legally active status of the entity (for corporate entities only) 
  • Reachability data; e-mail address and/or telephone number.

In case a .fr domain is blocked by the registry, registrant details have to be verified by providing documents confirming registrant identity. Reserved city name .FR domain Create

When you check a reserved city domain in our domain check, it will return as reserved indicating the domain is restricted from open registration due to the restrictions Afnic has laid down on registering Reserved city domains.

Reserved city domains are domains whose registration is subject to prior review as the name corresponds to a city name, a local authority or groups of local authorities, therefore, registration is only possible if your client demonstrates a legitimate interest and acts in good faith.

Your client should therefore motivate his/her request for the domain name and demonstrate that he/she is prepared for the project for which he/she is requesting the reserved city domain by presenting all of the below documents:

  • Copy of a website plan for the reserved city name domain
  • Invoice
  • Detailed business plan
  • Any administrative steps taken thus far, towards the accomplishment of the project

To create a reserved city name domain, follow the instruction below;

Create a contact with the registrant contact data in it. For instructions on how to create a contact, go to the Create a new contact knowledgebase article.

Request the required documents with the registrant (Copy of a website plan for the reserved city name domain, invoice, detailed business plan & any administrative steps taken thus far, towards the accomplishment of the project).

Contact our support department through email, and provide the documents, registrant contact created in our portal and request our support staff to create the reserved city domain.

Once the registry approves the documents, our support staff will complete the create manually. Our support staff will inform you through email once the create has been completed.


Transfer in

Important

In case you already have an existing registrant contact to use for the transfer, you can skip to step 2.

Make sure you're in posession of a valid authcode and request the transfer through our portal. For instructions on the transfer process, go to the Transfer domain(s) knowledge base article.

Once requested, the incoming transfer is requested with the registry and will take some time to complete. For more information, check the information below regarding the transfer approval windows for .FR domains.

Transfer approval windows for .FR domains

Once requested with Afnic, the outgoing registrar is notified of the transfer and has to approve the transfer to complete it as soon as possible. In case the losing registrar does not repsond to the outgoing transfer request, the transfer will be completed after 22 days at most. For more information on the different approval windows, check the information below.

8 day approval window
  • If the losing registrar approves the transfer within 8 days after receiving the outgoing transfer notification, the change in registrar takes place immediately once approval is given.
  • If the outgoing registrar does not respond within 8 days after receiving the outgoing transfer notification, the change in registrar takes place at the end of the 8 day period.
  • If the outgoing registrar rejects the transfer within 8 days after receiving the outgoing transfer notification, the total duration of the transfer operation is extended to 22 days.
22 day approval window
  • The losing registrar may still change its decision and approve the transfer before the end of the 22-day period, the change in registrar takes place immediately once approval is given.
  • At the end of the 22-day transfer period, the transfer is completed.
Approving the transfer

The approval or rejection of the transfer can be done by the losing registrar through the EPP domain:transfer command (reject or approve) or in Extranet: buttons to «refuse» or «approve» the transfer.


Registrant change

Important

In case you already have an existing registrant contact to use for the create, you can skip to step 2.

Open the domain detail page of the domain you wish to request a regsitrant change for and request the update to the new registrant contact. For instructions on how to start the domain update process, go the Update domain(s) knowledge base article.

Once requested, the registrant change will complete real-time.


Transfer out

To transfer out a .FR domain, you're going to need an authcode.

To obtain the authcode through our portal, login to the portal, go to the domain overview and lookup the domain you want to retrieve the authcode for.

Provide the authcode to the registrant and have him/her request the transfer with his/her new registrar.


Registrant verification

Once a .FR create has been completed, the registry checks the registrant data randomly for incorrect registrant data. In case the registry suspects registrant contact data is incorrect, we will receive the email below from Afnic and the domain is placed on a server_hold status.

Our support staff will contact you through email and will ask you to provide documents that verifiy the registrant contact data.

Provide the required documents to our support staff through email. In case an update of the registrant contact data is necessary, our support staff will provide instructions to do so. Once the correct registrant contact data is in place, the registry lifts the server_hold status and the domain starts resolving.

Add Contact properties

To add contact properties for .FR (Afnic) to a contact, go to the Contact properties knowledge base article and follow the instructions up until step #2. Once you've selected the .FR contact properties option, the below options will show up on screen;

Important

Contact properties for .FR are optional and not a requirement to create/transfer/update domains .FR domains.

Submit the data as requested by the form and click save properties when you're done.

Legal status In this field, the legal status of to the registrant has to be submitted (organisations only).
