Domain validation instructions

Whether you request a Domain validation certifcate (DV), Organisation validation certificate (OV), or an Extended validation (EV) certificate, all these certificate types require proof of domain control. This article provides in depth information on completing domain validation. Once you've requested a certificate and run into issues with domain validation, use the instruction below in order to complete domain validation. There are three domain validation methods, we'll go over them one by one.

Email validation

Open the request you're having issues with

Click the resend/modify button, select an alternative emailaddress if necessary and then click the resend button

A message indicating the request to resend the validation email will be displayed. Once the validation email has been received and accepted, domain validation will be completed

If for any given reason the validation email is not received, you can send a message to the CA using the messages tile to request information on the validation status

You've now successfully re-sent a domain validation email in order to proof domain control and complete your certificate request.

DNS validation

Open the request you're having issues with

Click the dropdown button to check what CNAME record needs to be set to prove domain validation and set this CNAME record in your domain's DNS settings

To check if a CNAME-record is set correctly, us a dig command to dig for the CNAME record of the domain you need to prove validation for
~$ dig CNAME _mock-hash.rtrtest.nl<br>

Make sure a CAA-record is in place that authorizes the CA to issue certificates for your domain(s)
~$ dig CAA rtrtest.nl<br>

Once you've confirmed both the CNAME and CAA-record are in place and correct, send the CA a message using the messages tile to inform them the records are in place and if they can complete domain validation

You've now successfully prepared a domain for DNS validation to prove domain control for your certificate request

File validation

Open the request you're having issues with

Click the dropdown button to check the location and contents of the TXT file that needs to be placed in order to prove domain control

Upload the TXT file to the designated location. Once uploaded, navigate to the location in a browser of your choosing to check if the file is indeed in place

Once you've confirmed the file is in place, send a message to the CA using the messages tile. Inform them that the file is in place and ask if they can complete domain validation

You've now successfully placed a file to proof domain control for domain validation of your certificate request
